Everyone experiences an emotional crisis at some point
in his or her life, and it’s reassuring to know that free help
is only a telephone call away. Contact Greater Philadelphia aims
to provide support, empowerment,
and useful referrals for local individuals in need. Contact offers
confidential, free telephone services to individuals residing in Bucks,
Philadelphia, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties.
One of Contact Greater Philadelphia's major service
missions within the Philadelphia Region is to assist and, when necessary,
find resources
for any/all of our callers in need of comfort, an understanding ear
or advice as to which resources are available to help them. We are
a United Way agency that provides free-of-charge, objective, confidential
and anonymous telephone-based warm line, crisis intervention and suicide
hotline services. Recipients of Contact’s services generally
reside in the Greater Philadelphia area, including Bucks, Chester,
Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. Contact’s intensively
trained volunteers assess our caller's needs and, if needed, we direct
them to an appropriate agency for assistance as required.
Contact’s
volunteers come from your own community. Every Contact listener is
skilled in active listening and emotional
crisis intervention.
In addition, these caring community members are taught to utilize a
comprehensive computer-based infrastructure, which targets local referrals
for needs-based services. These services include areas such as housing,
utilities, and medical services. Contact also operates a telephone
Reassurance Program, which pairs volunteers with isolated or home-bound
seniors and disabled individuals. The purpose of this free service
is to provide daily safety checks and social interaction.
Contact
Greater Philadelphia has been serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery
and Philadelphia counties for over 38 years. Contact fields
tens of thousands of crisis calls on an annual basis. For some individuals,
Contact Greater Philadelphia is their primary source of assistance
and support. Contact volunteers help callers to deal with a wide
spectrum
of crisis situations and emotional challenges, including suicidal
thoughts, depression, loneliness, grief, alcohol or drug dependence,
job loss
and an enormous range of domestic and relationship issues. All services
are provided free-of-charge.
Please
do not assume that your problem is so unique that it is not suitable
for our services. The range of
issues which our listeners
